Rugby fever hits the rails – Eurostar scores big with a surge in bookings

Thursday 7th September 2023: Eurostar, the high-speed passenger rail service linking the UK with mainland Europe, is set to welcome thousands of rugby fans in September and October as they travel the sustainable way to France to support their teams in the Rugby World Cup.

Up to 600,000[1] people are expected to travel by Eurostar from London St Pancras to Paris Nord or Lille Europe during the international tournament, an increase of nearly 30% compared to the previous year (2022). In response to the increase in demand, Eurostar has added around 50 additional services[2] throughout the tournament, allowing more people to experience this unique event.

To celebrate the Rugby World Cup returning to France, Eurostar has specially designed two scrum-tious rugby shaped desserts; vanilla pannacotta with a hint of raspberry and the second is a deliciously layered chocolate ganache. Over 50,000 of these desserts will be served to Standard Premier and Business Premier customers, giving fans a taste of the action before they’ve stepped foot in their destination. The onboard menus will change for the games from Thursday 7th September[3].
