The qualified Team GB athletes included boxer Delicious Orie, London-born triple gold medallist gymnast Max Whitlock, and archer Bryony Pitman, returning for her second Games after Tokyo 2020.

175 years of the Paris-Brussels line - Thalys celebrates high-speed European travel

Thalys is celebrating 175 years of rail travel between Paris and Brussels. This morning, to mark this anniversary, and the resumption of travel within Europe, an ‘event’ train with 175 Thalys customers and partners travelled between Paris and Brussels, not in two days as was the case on 14 June 1846, but in 1 hour 22 minutes.
As the first connection between two capital cities, the first Paris-Brussels journey marked the start of international rail travel within Europe.

The management of SNCF, SNCB and Patina Rail LLP* (a consortium comprising Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) and Hermes Infrastructure) have today presented the Green Speed project to their Boards which proposes combining Eurostar, the cross-Channel high speed rail operator, and Thalys, the Franco-Belgian high speed rail operator, to create the foundations of a sustainable European high-speed rail travel company.
When this project has been precisely defined, it will remain subject to the approval of the Boards and consultation with the representative bodies of employees as well as clearance of the European Commission regarding merger control.

Today, Eurostar launched its new year-round service direct from London to Lyon, Avignon and Marseille, with the first train departing St Pancras International this morning. From just £89 return, passengers can speed across the French countryside to reach the gastronomy, lavender fields and sunshine of these new destinations, now within easy reach of the heart of London or Ashford.
Eurostar reunites Cézanne treasures after over 100 years

The Courtauld Gallery and Eurostar have collaborated to bring together the cupid statue from Cézanne’s famous masterpiece ‘Still Life with Plaster Cast’ and the artwork itself for the first time in over 100 years.
The cupid statue was carefully transported by Eurostar to London from Cézanne’s studio in Aix-en-Provence, and is on display alongside the original masterpiece from today (18th March) in The Courtauld Gallery, which houses the largest collection of Cézannes in the UK.

The advertising, which consists of three ten-second edits, takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the inconvenience of air travel, thus highlighting the benefits of connecting high-speed rail services between London and the Netherlands.
